McDonalds Site on Yarm Road in Stockton

Stockton-on-Tees residents may soon have a new McDonald’s location to satisfy their fast-food cravings. A proposal has been submitted for a drive-thru restaurant off Yarm Road, adjacent to the existing Lidl supermarket. The vacant site is considered an ideal location by McDonalds due to its easy access to major roadways.

If approved, the new restaurant promises to inject significant investment into Stockton’s economy and generate around 120 new jobs. Additionally, the restaurant is expected to contribute approximately £56,000 annually in business rates, providing support for key local services.

McDonald’s emphasises its commitment to both environmental sustainability and community responsibility. The chain says that the restaurant’s design prioritises energy efficiency, aiming for net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. The company also pledges to use renewable and recyclable materials for packaging, recycle a high percentage of kitchen waste, and source all power from renewable sources.

Addressing potential concerns from nearby residents, the proposal outlines measures to minimise the impact on the surrounding neighbourhood. These include extensive landscaping for visual appeal and noise reduction, controls to limit cooking odours, and a sensitive lighting scheme. McDonald’s also commits to conducting at least three daily litter picks to maintain the site and surrounding areas.
