There has been a road traffic collision on Durham Lane near Eaglescliffe. The Great North Air Ambulance landed at the scene, and Cleveland Fire Brigade have three engines assisting.
Our traffic partners are indicating the collision is close to the junction with the A66 at Elton, with large delays to traffic in both directions due to the road being closed by Cleveland Police between Durham Lane Industrial Park and the A66. The collision is reported to have occurred shortly before 9:00am, with the air ambulance launching just before 9:20am.
Photos seen by TeesPix.Photos indicate that two cars were involved, both sustaining front end damage. The air ambulance has travelled to James Cook University Hospital, landing at 10:10am, however North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called to a two vehicle road traffic collision on Durham Lane, Stockton at at 8.57 this morning. We dispatched two double crewed ambulance and were supported by our colleagues at Great North Air Ambulance. One patient was taken to North Tees Hospital and another was taken to James Cook Hospital, both by road”.
The Great North Air Ambulance added “Our critical care team was activated at 9.16am to reports of a road traffic collision at 9.16am on Durham Lane in Stockton. We had a doctor and paramedic on board our aircraft and they arrived on scene at 9.22am. Our team worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service to assess and treat two patients. Both patients were taken to hospital by the North East Ambulance Service road crew.”
Cleveland Fire Brigade released a statement saying “Cleveland Fire Brigade were called to an incident on 08/04/2024 at 09.02am on Durham Lane, Eaglescliffe. Road traffic collision involving two vehicles. Three fire engines attended from Stockton and Thornaby. One casualty extricated from vehicle and handled over to the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS). We left the scene by 10.23am.”
Cleveland Police added: “The Durham Back Lane [Durham Lane] is closed between the petrol station and the A66 interchange following a two vehicle collision. The road will remain closed for a while as emergency services deal with the incident and vehicle recovery is arranged. Thank you for your co-operation.”
Roadworks have been ongoing on Durham Lane with two-way traffic signals until 19th April as part of works to repair gas leaks on a medium pressure main.
