The Environment Agency has issued a Flood Alert for the Lower River Tees and its surrounding tributaries. Heavy rainfall has caused river levels to rise, posing a flood risk to low-lying lands, roads, and riverside footpaths. The areas most at risk include Yarm, where the True Lovers Walk footpath could flood between 7:00 PM and 11:30 PM tonight (April 5th, 2024).
River levels are expected to remain high for the next 24 hours, with a further peak forecast for Saturday evening. Storm Kathleen is predicted to bring very strong winds from Saturday morning onwards. In preparation, the floodgates at Yarm may be closed early on Saturday as a precautionary measure.
The Environment Agency is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as needed.
Residents and visitors are strongly advised to:
- * Avoid low-lying footpaths and bridges near watercourses.
- * Never attempt to walk or drive through floodwaters.
