Firefighters from Cleveland Fire Brigade remain on scene Thursday evening at a fire in an abandoned building on Middlesbrough Road in the South Bank area of Middlesbrough.

The fire appears to be within a Former Church or Community Centre on Middlesbrough Road in South Bank.

Statement from Cleveland Fire Brigade

Cleveland Fire Brigade were called on 30/05/24 at 18:37 to an incident on Middlesbrough Road, South Bank, Middlesbrough.

 

Three fire engines were in attendance from Grangetown, Redcar and Saltburn which included the Combined Aerial Rescue Platform (CARP).

 

Fire in derelict Church. One ground monitor and CARP were used to extinguish the fire and two breathing apparatus used.

 

Roof destroyed by fire. 

 

We left the scene at 22:26 and the building was reinspected at 07:30 (31/05/24) and there were no signs of fire.

 

The cause is believed to be deliberate, however, investigations will take place as per our usual procedure.
