Myton Way in Ingleby Barwick was closed today due to a hit and run collision at 11.35pm last night in which a 60-year-old man died at the scene. Two other people were seriously injured and were taken to hospital.

Forensic officers in white suits were seen this morning bagging removing items in sealed bags with the road closed until around noon. A damaged white Citroen Berlingo van was removed from the scene overnight.

Cleveland Police issued a statement: “Cleveland Police has launched a murder investigation after a man sadly died following an incident in Ingleby Barwick.

Officers were called to Myton Way, Ingleby Barwick, at around 11.35pm on Friday evening (9th February) following a fail to stop collision.

A 60-year-old man sadly passed away at the scene. Our thoughts remain with his family at this extremely difficult time and our specially trained officers will be offering support to them.

Two other people were also seriously injured during the incident and were taken to hospital.

Myton Way remains closed at this time from the Rings up to Queen Elizabeth Way whilst officers continue to investigate the incident and enquiries are currently ongoing.”

Myton Way was closed in both directions between Quarry Farm Roundabout at the end of Queen Elizabeth Way, and Sandgate Junction close to the Co-op Food Store with traffic diverted around The Rings. Myton Way was also closed northbound from All Saints Roundabout at Tesco to the Sandgate Junction with an alternative route via Ingleby Way, Middle Road and Broom Hill Avenue.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or anyone who may have seen a white van travelling in the area at the time to get in touch.
