Known for its thrilling water slides, including the Black Hole, one of the UK’s longest indoor water slides, Wet ‘n’ Wild was a beloved destination for families and thrill-seekers alike. However, despite initial success, the park faced challenges over the years, including changing tastes and economic factors.
A chapter in the history of North Shields is closing as the demolition of the once-popular Wet ‘n’ Wild water park gets underway. The iconic attraction, which opened its doors in 1993, has fallen into disrepair in recent years, leading to its eventual closure and subsequent demolition.
The decision to demolish the park was made by the current owners, Bloom Developments Ltd., after obtaining planning permission from North Tyneside Council. The demolition process began in late 2024 and is expected to take several weeks to complete.
As the site is cleared, it remains to be seen what the future holds for this prominent location. While the demolition marks the end of an era for the North East, it also presents an opportunity for redevelopment and new beginnings.
