A multi-agency search and rescue exercise took place at South Gare, Redcar on the evening of Wednesday, September 18th. The exercise involved the Coastguard Rescue team, Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team, and the British Red Cross.
The training scenario focused on the search for and rescue of four casualties – one male and three females – in the challenging coastal environment of South Gare. Teams worked together to locate the “casualties” and then safely extract them back to a Red Cross tent for further assessment and care.
Members of the public were informed in advance about the exercise through various channels, including social media and local news outlets. The emergency services emphasised that the exercise was purely for training purposes and there was no cause for alarm if people saw them operating in the area.
However, the public was also reminded that if they witnessed anyone in genuine difficulty and were unsure if they were part of the exercise, they should dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.
The multi-agency exercise is a vital part of ensuring the emergency services are prepared to respond effectively to real-life emergencies in the coastal area. The exercise provided valuable training and experience for all involved, helping to improve their skills and coordination in challenging situations.
