Hundreds turned out on Wednesday evening to show support and unity as unprecedented violence sweeps the country in the wake of the Southport Stabbings. Many communities have been living in fear for over a week after the rise of far-right protests which many have descended into chaos as witnessed in Sunderland and Middlesbrough over the last weekend.
The centre of the peaceful protest focused around Newcastle’s West End along Westgate Road directly opposite The Beacon not far from the former General Hospital.
Officers dressed in riot gear as well as mounted officers were on standby should any clashes begin however the evening went by without any disorder.
