A multi vehicle crash on the A66 Westbound at Teesside Park completely blocked the Stockton bound carriageway causing severe congestion for motorists. The collision occurred between a Toyota Yaris and a truck shortly before 11:08am this morning with the road reopening shortly before 1:50pm.
A spokesperson for Cleveland Fire Brigade said “We are currently dealing with a road traffic Collision A66 west bound near Teesside Park .There are 3 fire engines attending . Please avoid area if you can”.
Cleveland Fire Brigade received the call at 11:35am and immediately dispatched 4 fire engines from Middlesbrough, Stockton and Thornaby to the scene of a crash involving a HGV and a Toyota Yaris . A woman was extricated by crews and transported to a local hospital.
Crews from Cleveland Fire Brigade left the scene at 12:46 and shortly after the road was re-opened to traffic.
Traffic on the westbound A66 backed up to Cannon Park in Middlesbrough, as well as southbound on the A19 over the Tees Flyover and it also affected the northbound A19 from Thornaby to A66. Surrounding routes including the Stockton/Middlesbrough Road (Wilderness Road) were also seeing an increase in traffic.
At 13:50 Cleveland Police confirmed the road was reopened: “A road has now reopened after a collision around 11am on the A66 westbound, close to Teesside Park. A woman was extracted from a Toyota Yaris by the Fire Brigade, but is not believed to be seriously injured. We’d like to thank motorists for their patience.”
