At around lunchtime on Sunday 20th of October emergency services were called to the scene on the southbound carriageway of the A19 near to Passfield Way / Old Shotton Junction. The A19 is completely closed in both directions between the A181 near Wingate and the Burnhope Way Junction as specialist collision investigators work at the scene to establish what has taken place.

Durham Constabulary have advised the carriageway is completely closed with no estimated time of reopening, local roads are heavily congested as a result of the incident as motorists seek alternative routes.
