Rush hour traffic on Tuesday was brought to a standstill as a multi-vehicle crash blocked the A1(M) just north of junction 61 for Bowburn
The crash which was reported just after 17:15pm had the northbound carriageway of the motorway blocked as emergency services responded to the scene.
Traffic is currently slow on approach and all lanes re-opened at approximately 18:10
National Highways Traffic officers are on scene and are working in-conjunction with Durham Constabulary
